La Guarecita

Bright colors and a painting of a traditional Mexican woman, La Guarecita, adorn 23rd Street's newest business, aptly called Mercado La Guarecita. La Guarecita is more than a name: the tradiontal Mexican woman on the facade brings with her a market to 23rd St. that is reminiscent of markets in Mexico. The owners, Francisco and Maria, offer friendly customer service in Spanish and English. Their knowledge of the nuances of their clients' culture makes the customers feel at home in a comfortable shopping environment where they can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood. Customers can also enjoy a prepared meal in La Guarecita's taqueria, which features tacos, burritos, sandwiches, quesadillas, birria, and, on the weekends, menudo, a traditional, Mexican soup. Fresh fruit juices are available everyday.
For the past two years, Francisco has been working tirelessly with the assistance of the BDC to secure a loan and make his dream of business ownership a reality. This loan enabled him to transform a dilapidated building into a beautiful market and community gathering place on 23rd St. In addition to the loan assistance, the BDC also coordinated a Grand Opening ceremony for La Guarecita on the 25th of February.
